Earnings Call Speaker Segments
Operator
operatorGood morning or good afternoon, all, and welcome to the Bunzl plc pre-AGM Q&A Session. My name is Adam, and I'll be the operator for this call. [Operator Instructions]
Operator
operatorOur first question today comes from Rebecca Deegan of ShareAction.
Unknown Attendee
attendeeI would like to ask Bunzl to publicly report the number of employees by contract type, including part-time workers, temporary workers and those subcontracted either by another firm or classified as an independent contractor? And I would like to ask which of these groups receive at least the real living wage defined by the Living Wage Foundation? And additionally, I would like to ask if a representative of Bunzl would be willing to meet with the ShareAction, which is an organization that I'm acting as a proxy for today, and I'm representative of the Good Work Investor Coalition to discuss the company's approach to contracts in more detail?
Peter Ventress
executiveMaybe one for Diana?
Diana Breeze
executiveThank you. Thank you, Rebecca. I'm afraid I don't have to hand the detailed breakdown of permanent versus contracted employees. The one thing I can tell you is we certainly don't have anybody on 0 hours contracts. As you probably know, in the U.K., we have 2,700 people. We do believe -- we constantly monitor our wage rates. We do believe that they are highly competitive, and we track them against the minimum living wages and regional data, and we believe that vast majority of people are paid more than the living wage. I think what the last year taught us is that employees are very, very interested also in stability, predictability of take and pay, career development opportunities and security, and that is something that we've always priced very highly. And therefore, I think we do get a very low voluntary turnover rate for employees and have a very stable workforce. And as I say, that's been very clear over the last year, given the crisis we're all going through. But I can try and get the breakdown, but I don't have it to hand now.
Operator
operator[Operator Instructions] This concludes today's question-and-answer session, so I will now hand back to Chairman, Peter Ventress, for closing remarks.
Peter Ventress
executiveThanks very much, Adam. Thanks to everybody who joined us on the call today. Thanks particularly to the Bunzl team. We are trying very hard in these difficult times to maintain transparency with our investors and ensure that they have every opportunity to question management, question the Board and raise any key issues they have. And this is just one example of how we are doing that. Hopefully, for all of us, at some point in the not-too-distant future, we'll all get back to some sense of normality and be able to hold meetings in the more standard format that we've become used to over the years. But for today, that concludes this call, and thank you very much to everybody who has joined.
Operator
operatorLadies and gentlemen, this concludes today's call. Thank you very much for your attendance. You may now disconnect your lines.
