David Makuen
executiveHello. Thank you, Peter, and welcome, everyone. I'm David Makuen, and I started as the new CEO of Citi Trends on March 9, 2020. I was attracted to Citi Trends' unmatched value proposition, servicing the complete wardrobe and home needs of primarily African-American families, which provides a unique platform for growth. I look forward to working alongside talented members of senior management as well as store associates and team members in Savannah and New York City as we position the company to become a $1 billion brand. Throughout fiscal 2019, we continued to make progress on a number of key strategic initiatives and ended the year with a comparable store sales increase of 3.1% in the fourth quarter of 2019. Additionally, our gross profit in the fourth quarter was 39.7%, representing an increase of 235 basis points over the fourth quarter of the prior year. With no debt, our balance sheet remains strong in fiscal 2019 to support our expansion and strategic vision. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic brought on many challenges. The safety of our associates and customers was our #1 priority as we closed the chain in late March. We next focused on business continuity. And as of today, we have safely reopened nearly all of our 574 formally closed stores and brought back most of our furloughed associates. I am so proud of our world-class team that will undoubtedly continue their fine efforts in making Citi Trends an even stronger company than it already is. As we navigate the current times and return to a version of normal, our vision remains the same. Citi Trends aspires to be the leader in our unique space on a few multi-category, off-price retailers, focused primarily on the African-American market. We provide a differentiated assortment of basics, fashion, trend and sought-after brands at amazing prices. We will continue our efforts to make Citi Trends the go-to shopping destination for our customers. Regarding our current fiscal 2020 results, as of June 27, our total sales for second quarter-to-date increased 25% compared to the same period of the prior year, exceeding our expectations. Comparable store sales for reopened stores from their respective opening dates in the same quarter and second quarter-to-date period increased 53%. We are thrilled with these early results in stores that opened in waves from April 24 to present. We are benefiting from a combination of the strength of our brand, our value proposition and the federal government stimulus that began in early April. Our buying team is capitalizing on opportunistic merchandise opportunities and successfully delivering new and relevant products for our customers at healthy margins. Looking ahead, the company is continuing to make meaningful progress on its long-term strategic plan, including: maximizing real estate opportunities, including the opening of 4 new stores thus far in the second quarter of fiscal 2020; making improvements in our supply chain and reducing inventories, increasing margins and increasing turns of an appealing assortment of always-fresh merchandise. With that, I'll conclude my remarks, and we'll move right to your questions. Peter?
