executiveOkay. Thanks, Karan. Hi, everybody. Good afternoon, good evening, and thank you so much for taking the time off work and joining this session. So as it's a Coffee with Dell, I've got my coffee mug with me, and I hope you've got yours. So I hope this session is interesting and informative. And like Karan was saying, we'll have some poll questions in between. You have a Q&A tab. So please feel free to drop in your questions, and we'll try to address them as we go along in this session. So as you're all aware, we are in a situation today that none of us have expected, and we're all learning to deal with it at the same time. So I hope that this session will cover some of the important takeaways that could enable you to serve your employees or your team better while you're working from home, right? So the first thing, like I said, we're all in this together. Thousands of countries have been affected, thousands of people have been affected. And the primary importance, I think, for all of us is to stay safe and stay at home. So I hope all of you all are doing well. Also, your families are doing well and take care and be safe. I think with the lockdowns all getting removed, I think it's more important for us to take precautions as required, frankly. So just a quick overview as to where we are, right? So if you look at the way things have gone, there's a huge dip in the economy in the last few months. Businesses have been soft and it's impacted everybody quite drastically. And during this time, a lot of us have scrambled and reacted or responded to ways to get our employees working, to get them onboard, to give them access to all the corporate data and applications. And that's perfectly fine, right? We needed to get our business on the road, and we did what we have to do. And I think in the due course of time, I think things will plateau. We will kind of reflect to what we have done so far, how has it impacted our business. Are -- the solutions that we've gone ahead and deployed, are they the right ones? Is there any underlying cost increase, right, so on and so forth? We kind of go into a reflect mode and try to better what we have done so far to enable our employees and team, right? And the next phase is definitely, of course, to rethink, right? How are we going to address this in the future, right? It's not going away. We're going to be working from home. At least, we, at VMware, we've announced our offices being closed to Jan 31, so that's another 5 months from now. It's a long time. And I think going forward in the future as well -- yesterday, we had all-hands meet -- global all-hands meet. And it looks like this is going to be the new normal for us and for many of you out there as well. So we need to rethink how our future is going to be and how we can address this work-from-home issues and policies, make sure that our employees are happy and we have the right resources and the right tools to keep them productive and more engaged, right? So while all this is happening, one of the things you've seen us in the past, we've had many different styles. But we've also had remote workers, where people have been working from home in the past as well. I think it's just the intensity, the number of people and the tools that we had, it's drastically put an impact on all of us, especially from IT to enable support for the employees. So today, all of us -- essentially of us, work -- remote workers, there are definitely -- the economy grows almost 18% and then probably, we'll be working from home for a certain amount of time. Now working from home has not been new, right? A lot of companies have been adopting it in the past. And like I said, that the sheer amount of volume that we have that it's making us difficult to cooperate, right? But like you see, if you look at people around the globe, there have been a lot of workers who've been working from home. So we have the technology to enable this. It's just that in this situation, we had to react. But now that we are in a reflect and sleeping phase, I think we need to regroup and see if the tools that we deployed are the right ones and how do we make it better, right? So that's the key challenge. And also, productivity seems to have increased with people working from home. You have a lot of less travel, at least I don't miss traveling in the Bangalore traffic. But yes, I think if you look at it from a Dell side and the VMware side, the kind of technology we've had, we've enabled our teams to immediately start working from home. So although I thought we are going to have a lot more time at home, but it's actually become the opposite, I'm spending a lot more time in this room with my colleagues on calls and webinars and meetings. So thing seems to have been good, and -- but we need to strike a balance as well between work and our own life as well, right? So having said that, the challenge that most IT companies have today is large -- most companies have today, and certainly of IT, but most companies have today is a number of tools you have in your inventory, right? You have so many different tools to enable people to work from remote locations. Or on the security side, you have different kinds of devices. So while all of this is there, you have -- I'm sure most of you have already deployed solutions. But the challenge comes in there largely because each of these solutions are siloed, which means they don't talk to other, right? Maybe an Apple management system like a Jamf will not talk to a VDI solution like [indiscernible], right? VPN solution, like Global product, may not be anything with your [ SCCM ], right? Just an example. So I think with all of these devices that are there in the market today, with all of these applications that you have, it's really required for you to rethink how you want to deliver this in a secure way, that's primary. And also, at the same time, make sure that your end users and your employees have a good user experience, otherwise you're going to see a drop in productivity as we go. So what we suggest is -- or rather what Workspace ONE or the Dell Unified Workspace is it's a platform, right? It's a platform that enables you to manage any device in any context. So irrespective of what device you use, Windows 10, iOS, Android, Macs, even Chromebooks, if you deploy them, if they are employee-owned, if they're company-owned, if they are probably even shared devices, right, how do you manage all of these devices in one single platform, right? You have smart devices as well. You have virtual applications today. We've got a customer that come back to us and said, "Hey, I want VDI to enable my employees to access their desktops virtually." You have various kinds of applications. No longer are only applications in the data center. You have SaaS-based applications, you have virtual, you have backup applications, you even have mobile applications, right? How do you manage all of this? And of course, the network, right? How do you ensure that communication between the devices and your data center is secure? So you need a single platform that can manage this entirely for you. Today, you may have different tools that you're using to manage each of them in silos. But what you need to rethink on the future is how do you enable a complete platform that will help you manage all of this? And above that platform, you need services that will enable you to have better user experience as well and make sure that the security is in place, whether the architecture of the platform is based on Zero Trust, right? Zero Trust is always verify, you will never trust, always verify. That's like the primary go-to module now in terms of security. So does your future digital workspace have a Zero Trust application in there? It's something that you would need to check, right? And how is the communication? Now over and above this, you would need intelligence. Now the intelligence piece is very critical because it will also have automation reporting as a part of it. Now you have a tool. You have multiple tools. How do you know -- how do you get information about what's happening within your environment, right? And can you automate actions? A lot of times, we have so many tools that we get so many notifications. There's a term called notification fatigue or alert fatigue that's come into the market today. Because IT is constantly getting alerts and notifications from the tools that they have. Now is there a way of automating the actions that are going to take place? Yes, there is, right? So you need to look at automation as another option as well. And that's when the intelligence piece comes in. And finally, it's your ecosystem. You have so many tools that you've got. You don't want to start replacing all of them. You need an open ecosystem that integrates with them, so open API that will help you keep your infrastructure and keep your tools that you've got, at the same time, take them to the next level by integrating them into the platform, which is Workspace ONE, right? So that, in a nutshell, is what Workspace ONE is all about. I'll go into details -- into more details here as we progress in the presentation. So before we go ahead, we have a poll question that's coming up. So you'll probably see the poll question appearing on the screen, right? So I'm going to pause for like about 10 seconds. And then you will answer this poll and then we will see how -- what your priorities were, whether it's employees ditching communications, whether it's been proximity, workspace, right? So go ahead, take about a few seconds and answer. And we'll take [indiscernible].
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveThanks, David. All right. Participants, the first polling question is in front of your screens. You have 10 to 15 seconds to register your answers. Over to you, David.
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveThanks. So I'm glad all of you took the poll. And I hope you see also that, that will help me understand where you are in your journey to this time. So like I said, there are 2 parts to it. One is from an IT perspective and the other is from an employee perspective. So I'm going to touch upon the employee perspective first. So if you look at it, employee experience is very important. In the larger scheme of things, we have 3 key parameters that enable and enhance an employee's experience within an organization. We have physical parameters, which is like an office space or office environment, right? And you have cultural like policies within your position, your teams that you are and the engagement that happens with management and with the team. And the third, in part, is technology, right? So in today's time, we don't have much to learn, we don't have -- because typically, we're at all at home, right? So technology is going to play a very important part in enabling your employee experience side. And it influences both your physical as well as your cultural. So on the technological experience part of it, it's -- research has been done. You've seen that the more -- if you invest in the technology as well, the more it reflects in your outcome. So for example, these are some of the examples on the technology side by giving device choice to your employees, making sure that your employees are productive from day 1. Then joining -- a lot of people are hiring also right now. So if a new employee comes onboard, how do you make sure he's productive from day 1? Self-service, employees like to be taking care of their own things most of the time rather than raising tickets to IT. So it has to have a self-service-enabled workspace. And at the same time, while all of these are being given, it has to be secure as well, right? So the first part of our employee experience -- in Workspace ONE is the unified app catalog. It's called the Intelligent Hub. If you go in the app store of an investor, you see the Intelligent Hub there. Now what we see is there's a single lane of class, a single catalog for all employees to go in and access their applications. Now it doesn't matter what kind of application you have, whether it's internal on your data center or whether it's a web application, it's a native application for maybe an iOS, Android device or even a virtual application of a virtual desktop, right? All of them can be incorporated into one single app network. So when an employee goes in and he wants to access applications, he just needs to go to the Intelligent Hub and he will get all these applications there. The second part of this is you actually will sign on. So employees will need to remember their username and passwords. All of them are incorporated with single sign-ons. So once you're signed in, it could be either EV-authenticated or certificate-based authentication. You can access any application because your device is trusted and your network is trusted and your username is trusted. So this is the first part of user experience. The second part is, of course, communication, right? Now every time we communicate, we need to communicate to our employee, it's through e-mail, right? All of us are sending work e-mails. We get on what's happening with the organization. What's also built into the Intelligent Hub is a notification tab. So it's a great tool for communication from the organization to the employee. It keeps the employee engaged. And a lot of times, within automation, whenever Office 365 is down, we get a notification on Intelligent Hub saying that, "You know what, our Office 365 is down. This might take a couple of hours, so you might not get e-mails, right?" So at least we know. So it's a great tool to have an alternate way to communicate with your employees and to notify them. And as you see here, we've done some work with a customer in Hyderabad. So we have actually a notification center in Telegu. Now irrespective of which location you're in, we can customize these notifications on your language. And it's a great way to give that personal touch to the employees as well. The other part of the employee engagement, we have a lot of productivity applications on mobile devices. So the hub is available on Windows 10 and any operating platform. But on mobile devices, we take it a step further. We have applications like e-mail client, web browser. Now all of these are containerized applications, so it means that they're extremely secure. And you have things like copy/paste prevention or data protection that you can add on. An interesting thing that we have over here is if you look at the right-hand side is something called Tunnel, right? Now Tunnel is a VPN application that's been built into the digital workspace. And it also provides an application-level VPN, right? So imagine a situation where your employee is at home, is accessing your corporate data from his personal laptop and he's using a VPN. Now in a traditional VPN, your whole laptop is in fact your data center. And if there is any malware or any virus on it, it's going to transmit to your data center in a secure entire environment. So the best option alternate that we're looking at is an application-based level VPN. So only the application that you're using, maybe a browser, maybe a native app, right, or data app, only that will create a VPN tunnel into your data center, which means anything else that is there on the device cannot affect your data center. So that's a part of the security portfolio as well. While they're giving good employee experience, it's also making sure that entire -- the environment is secure. And the third thing, of course, that every employee needs is privacy. So we have an in-built privacy application that tells the employees what data is being captured on your device so that they're also relaxed and rest assured that there is no invasion of privacy that's happening. And if IT makes any change in the policy, that kind of reflects immediately in terms of -- in the application and tells the employees that, "This is one thing that IT have maintained." So this also enables the adoption. So a lot of times, we have great tools, but we don't have adoption. I think this privacy tool is what we've seen that helps a lot of organizations increase their adoption in terms of using a tool like this. So I'm going to pause for a minute. Currently, if there are any questions that I need to take, I can take them now or we can carry on. Okay. I think let's get back to the questions part. But in the second phase, like I was saying, firstly is the employee experience, second part is Unified Endpoint Management. Now with the number of tools that you have within your organization, you have many, many operating systems that are coming up, right? And as these operating systems are there, you need various tools to manage them. And a lot of companies are deploying multiple tools. Now what happens when you deploy multiple tools is your visibility across the entire landscape is limited. You will start seeing different parameters for different operating systems. You will lose the larger picture, right? And that's why you need to employ or deploy a tool that will manage any kind of operating system across. And that's what Workspace ONE is all about. So once you have deployed a platform like this, you have a clear visibility of every endpoint within your organization. What's happening? Are they all in compliance? Are they all tagged, so they're all up to date? So you have the information at the tip of your fingers irrespective of what endpoint it is or what kind of device ownership it is as well. And if you look at it traditionally, a lot of the tools that were made were designed for the office, right? All of us used to work in an office before. So things have changed. But yes, the tools that were designed earlier were traditionally made for office, all combined in the network. But in today's time, it's -- you're working remotely, so the tools that you've used earlier may not be able to manage or cope up with this kind of an environment, right? So that's why we introduced something called modern management, so especially on Windows 10 devices. If you look at the traditional tools that you have, you generally would do something called imaging when you're creating the laptop for your employee. You would join into a domain. You would put in all the GPOs and policies. Then you would probably hand it over to another teammate of yours. They come in, they try installing applications and configure it and update patches. It's so much of a work, right? And with all of us working remotely, it's not possible to do this, right? So the tools that you've had were great. I mean they've served us for the last 20 years. But going forward, with the new normal coming in, I don't think these tools will be able to cope up. Even if you are doing it, it's great. But it's more effort. You're spending more time doing all these things, which can be automated and which can be taken over, right, which is really a lot of work for you from an IT perspective. So modern management actually is a way of managing devices over the air. You don't need to be on a domain. A lot of times, if you -- would ask us, "Why do you need to divest your domain?" It's largely because of policies that you need to publish, right? So what if we can do all of that without domain joining. Have you ever imaged your mobile device? No, right? Why do you need to invest in Windows 10, though? Because Windows 10 is a mobile device operating system. So these are the questions that you need to rethink in the future coming up, right? So you need a tool that will help you irrespective of -- it's kind of a mindset change that you need to have. It will give you all of the things that you wanted but a lot easier way of delivering it, whether it's patch updates -- I've seen customers in the last 6 months, for 5 months that they've been in the lockdown using VPN to patch -- update their patches, right? They don't know -- they bought laptops and they've given it to the employees. They don't know who's keeping patched. They don't have visibility, right, because they don't have a network. So these are the challenges that we can definitely address with a tool like Workspace ONE. It's a cloud-based platform. So it removes a lot of infrastructure that you needed traditionally. It's modern management. You can not only manage the software part of it or the operating system part of it, but with Dell and VMware together, we can manage even stuff like the BIOS configuration or the BIOS password management or even your battery management, battery life cycle management. So these are things that were not possible before over the network or over the air. You always have to be in the network to get this information. All of these amazing things can be done now remotely as well, whether it's patch updates, application updates, operating system patches and overall security and health of your device, everything can be managed over the air. And like I said, it's a yin and yang of user versus IT. We want to make sure that the user has good experience. At the same time, IT is making sure that all of their requirements are secure and taken care of. So while we give this amazing user experience with the hub and the applications, IT also can leverage like factory provisioning service from Dell. I'll show you about that in a bit of more detail, right? So typically, what you would do in imaging process, you would keep a big data operating system. All of your customizations, removing the bloatwares, applications that are required, GPO policy laws and put it, harden it in an image, so it's what you would call a golden image and then burn it in your laptop or you would send it to Dell and Dell would do it in the factory. Now it has been done before. It saves a lot of time. But with Windows 10, you have constant updates. You have constant patches, constant versions, new versions coming out. So it becomes like -- it's a lot of time wasted in creating these images again and again. What if you don't need to create an image, right? Like I said, you never create an image of your mobile device. So what we do is you can order the device directly from the Dell factory with the base OS, which is Windows 10, vanilla OS or the version that you require. And all of the other things, your configurations, GPOs, applications, all of that is created in Workspace ONE. We create a package in Workspace ONE. And that package is shipped to Dell. Dell installs that package in the factory and ships it out to the user, right? So instead of going through this traditional route of IT doing a lot of work in getting the device ready, we can ship it directly to the end user. The end user will do all the work himself. Within 15 minutes, his device is up and running and he's ready to go. So this is -- actually, we've implemented this in VMware. So for us, when the lockdown happened, we were immediately ready to go in terms of whether we are -- we keep hiring a lot of new employees as well and we were able to enable them immediately with their devices and their applications and data. So this really cuts down a lot of time for IT. It's completely 0 touch. IT doesn't need to configure the device or touch the device in terms of configurations. We can ship directly from the factory in a box to the employee and the employee can go ahead and get it done himself. So really great tool, it saves a lot of money, a lot of time for a lot of our customers that we've deployed this in. And a lot of times, we see that a lot of the tools that we use today are more on the software side of management. But with Dell and VMware together, we can extend it on the hardware side as well. As I was mentioning earlier, you have battery management. That's the most common thing that you replace on a laptop, where you have -- we can create -- you can get the drive information out of the device. If there's an error in the hardware, you can make sure that the files are held and it's possible to maintain files are update it and all of that, asset management and so on and so forth. So you're not only just managing the software, you can manage your hardware immediate concern as well with the Dell Unified Workspace solution, right? Here are a few of the examples that I've stated before. So battery health and files management as well. And this can be taken to the next level by automation as well. So what if you -- what if the health of your battery is down and we cannot place a ticket to buy a new battery? I'll come to that in the next section. Some of the additional features, like I said, you call it managing files, today, we have something called power management to Dell. So you can actually make sure that to enhance the battery life, when the battery should be charging and when it shouldn't. These are some of the really cool features that we have at Dell and VMware together. And this all can be managed over the air. And you don't need to be on domain network anymore. So once you enable all of this, it makes it a lot easier, a lot of return on investment that you get. It's not just about how much you're spending today, how much of return you're getting on that spend as well. And these things, we are working with companies to make their life easier. And that's what we intend to do with the Dell Unified Workspace and Workspace ONE. And lastly, of course, in Windows 10 and also for any devices, all of you need troubleshooting and remote control or remote management. That's again integrated with Workspace ONE. We have the Workspace ONE Assist, which is meant for IT teams to troubleshoot. We can take complete control of your Windows 10 devices or any other platform, right? Like you can see other platforms mentioned, iOS, Mac, Android, doesn't matter. Again, a single pane of glass, IT can go and take remote control or remote view, troubleshoot. Especially when you are in remote locations, it's really an amazing tool. And so if you just recollect, like if you take a step back, we've been doing all these things, you are doing it right now. But how many tools are you using to do this is the question, right? With Workspace ONE, you can eliminate all those tools and you can keep it as one application and one platform to do all of this that I've shown so far. So it's an end-to-end platform right from your procurement stage to your retirement of your PCs. The Dell Unified Workspace is what you would actually require. And anything, right, from any kind of situation that you'd have, you can always use -- it's a single point of contact for you from a Dell perspective. So you don't have multiple vendors to deal with. Nobody's passing the buck on to one another. And it's just your Dell account manager and the Dell services team and partnering, of course, with VMware that we will address it. So this -- in a nutshell, that's what Dell Unified Workspace is all about. And I hope that -- I'm sure that you'll have a lot of questions. So right from deployment, security, management of your Windows and devices and support, it's one single scale that actually will take the entire device feed and your application feed and your application as well. So I'm going to pause for a bit. Here's another poll question for you. And while you're doing the poll, Karan, if there are any questions that I can answer, let's take that up.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveSure, David. David, there are a couple of questions coming in. Okay, I'll just quickly read it out to you. Okay. So first one is, I think, how is the group policy or any other policy will be implemented if this is not managed by IT support?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveYes. So today, what you -- even Microsoft is transitioning to what is cloud-based GPOs or cloud-based policies. You have a lot of -- if you look at -- once we start diving into a company's environment, right, they have created thousands of GPO policies over the years. Just over the years, it just keeps building. So we have a way of transitioning whatever policies you've created into Workspace ONE, whichever that was staying in the company or using a SCCM module to create all the GPOS. We have a product called AirLift. AirLift takes all your policies, and you'd be able to manage it and transition it to Workspace ONE. And all of these policies are delivered over the air. Like I said, domain join is a concept that has been long over many years with us. And it's a little bit of a mindset change that we need to ask the question is why do we need to domain join? In VMware, we were using Microsoft for a long time. It's taken us about 1.5 years to transition, and we completely transitioned from SCCM to Workspace ONE. We had a lot of learnings on the way. And our IT teams have also been our ambassadors on what needs to be done and the challenges that they faced. And that's how our product has also evolved, right? So what we do in a couple of sessions is we invite our IT team as well to talk to you. And it's always better than an IT guy talking to another IT guy. So the real ground reality was the hardship that are known are shared. And our IT teams can definitely help you take that, help you transition or share their transition journey, which could help you understand. But to answer the question, I think we can transition your GPO policies into Workspace ONE, create them into cloud-based policies and then push them over the air to the devices. Any other questions, Karan?
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveDavid, one more question before we get started with the presentation. So the next question is from Mr. Vishal. He's asking, can we see a demo of Workspace ONE?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveYes, definitely. I mean we have a trial in the demo. I could share the links to you. It's available on YouTube as well. We have a lot of demos that we've uploaded on YouTube. I don't have one in this presentation right now because it's a very vast platform and we have time constraints. So I would request -- I mean you just say VMware Workspace ONE in YouTube and you will have the demos. But if you want a one-on-one session as well, you could -- at the end of the webinar, we'll give you an e-mail ID. You can drop in your request there, right? And we also have a free trial. So with the current lockdown situation, we've actually enabled a free trial of about 100 devices to 90 days, right? So if you want to enable or test out as a free trialing, all you have to do is type in VMware Workspace ONE in your Google tab bar, a free trial, you'll be taken to the link and just sign up and you'll get access to Workspace ONE for a period of time. So while that has been done, we would always engage somebody to take you through the product, to take you through demos and help you in deployment as well. So it's absolutely fair. So feel free to drop a mail with your contact details [indiscernible].
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveAbsolutely, David. Just to reiterate, Mr. Vishal, please write to us at dellemc_solutions@dell.com, and we'll connect you with our experts.
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveOkay.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveSo now I think, David, you can start your presentation. You can also start [indiscernible] we have already closed our polls.
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveYou have closed the poll? Okay, awesome. So -- like I was saying, we spoke about employee experience, we spoke about management of all these devices over the air and the policies that are there. Another key -- very, very key parameter in this kind of scenario is security, right? So in this kind of situation, we're seeing a lot of security breaches and a lot of customers have said that. So the way we tackle this is we have a Zero Trust architecture in-built into the Workspace ONE solution, right? So every time a user is trying to gain access or there's an application or data, we have 4 levels of security checks that we do. Now while this may seem a lot, it happens in a microsecond, right? So the first thing we check is the device. Is the device compliant? Is the device patched? Is the device up to date? There's a device need -- does the device have an antivirus or new gen -- next-gen antivirus. So we check all these things. And just like we said, it's a constant live update that's happening. And we trust the device and say, "Okay, the device is trusted," right? The next -- and we even enhance this further by integration for Dell devices on the files levels as well. So we have a next layer of more authentications as well. The second part we identify is the users. Are they the right users? Do they have the right credentials? We also have integration with the next-gen EVs, where we check the behavior of the user. Is it a normal behavior? Or is it something that we haven't seen from the user as well? So this is a constant process that we do. And because of the architecture, we work with a lot of new generation or next-generation antivirus tools. We also have our own, which is Carbon Black. And there's a constant monitoring that happens, right, which checks the device, which assigns it to a user. Third is we check the transport layer between the user, device and the data center for the application. Is this connection secure? Every team is required, as an application level, it is required. Is it encrypted, right? So this is the third part of the machine. And the fourth one is if your application up to date. Is your application up to date, right? So are you the right user to write and access the application? So we do 4 levels of checks before we give access for the employees to use their data. And this is taken to the next level with integration with amazing Dell devices that you have with SafeBIOS, SafeID, SafeGuard integrated into the device. So it makes it more secure for you to go ahead. And that's where once all of these parameters ticked, we give access to the employee to the application and his data. So that's kind of what the Zero Trust architecture is all about. We always -- we never trust anybody. We always verify before we give access to the employees everyday. And like I said, we have our own next-gen antivirus or intrinsic security that we have is Carbon Black. Now Carbon Black integrates very well with Workspace ONE. And it's a constant variable analysis that we have on the device. So whether it's a compliance issue, whether it's a section of a threat, it automatically will trigger a notification to Workspace ONE. Workspace ONE can either quarantine the device, remotely wipe the device, remotely lock the device, notify the manager and notify IT. All of those information can happen in a matter of seconds once they're automated, right? And that's our integration with Carbon Black as well, the entire and a little bit more. But the last part or the last piece after the security piece is automation and analytics. So like I said, you need something that will help you automate all of this. And as I was mentioning earlier, it's something alert fatigue that -- because of the vast number of tools that you use in IT, you keep getting alerts, right? So what we do with Workspace ONE Intelligence, again it's all part of the same platform. While you have all of this data, your endpoints, your applications, you have so much of data, you take all the data and create it or automate it and make sure that, that data helps in making sure your environment is up-to-date all the time, right? So once you have the visibility, we create automations in Workspace ONE saying that depending on various parameters, whether it's, say, patch update or whether it's application updates, user tweaking. And we can automate the action that takes place on the device, right? So I'm going to have -- and I will share 3 examples that how we can automate. There are so much more. So as you see, this is the first update on Windows 10 OS batches, right? So we created a dashboard on Workspace ONE Intelligence. So we're checking for KB article, right? So I pull up a report, I kind of see this processing that if this KB article is not installed, show me the list of these devices, right? Once you have this list of devices that the KB article is not installed, you make sure that Workspace ONE automatically starts pushing the update to those particular devices. Now you give a time frame, you can say 24 hours. After 24 hours, how much of those devices have been updated? And what about the rest who have not been updated? Can we escalate this to the next level? Like maybe send an e-mail or notification to the employee and to the manager saying that you need to install the KB article because it's a security risk, right? Say another 24 hours, so 48 hours have passed since we set up this escalation. And if the employee still hasn't done it, we can block his access or remove his access. So once you set this automation in, any time you create, say, giving a KB article or the patch that needs to be done, this automation will automatically start taking it. So IT doesn't need to keep checking every time how many devices have passed, how many devices have not. At a click of a button, you'll get immediate information as to what's happening and what's not. And the automation is happening in the back end, right? So this is a great tool for you to manage large number of devices. If it's a small number of devices and it's a small lean team, it helps you keep your devices up to date. So in our organization, we've been deploying this. I think we have like 98%, 99% kind of up-to-date environment that we have, so clearly changed the way we were managing our device. The second example on the automation, again it's a similar automation and compliance that you've put into place every time you're integrating with Carbon Black or a security tool. So again, you have a parameter saying that scan for vulnerabilities, the moment Workspace ONE or the tool identifies a Carbon Black, identifies a vulnerability, it triggers a notification to Workspace ONE. And you can choose what action to take place, whether to completely quarantine the device or remove the data from the device or send a notification e-mail, block e-mail, various options that you have, right? So this is another example of the automation piece as well. And to take it to the next level, right? It's something to ask your management. So we can also -- if you have integrations with a ServiceNow ticketing -- other ticketing tools, we have open APIs and I was talking about the ecosystem, right? So what if your Dell Client Command Suite detects that your battery is going to fail in the next 2 weeks? What -- actually, what will happen then is it will trigger a notification to Workspace ONE saying that this battery is really bad. Workspace ONE has an API call the ServiceNow to order a new battery. ServiceNow raises a ticket and orders a new battery to the Dell factory, right? This is next-level automation, right? So it's amazing that what you can do with this tool. So as I said in the automation, once you have all of this information, you can start taking it to the next level of automating things and making life a lot easier for you as well. So these are some examples of how you can automate, but there are many more in terms of the intelligence piece. And you can have customized reporting based on what parameters you want to look at. We have about 100 parameters in-built. You can choose your own sensors and build your own reports as well. So that's about the entirety with automation and the security piece. So we have another poll question. And it's a very easy one. So you can go ahead and take this. And Karan, again, if there are any questions that I can maybe address this time.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveSure, David. So the next question is from Mr. Ajay Shankar, he's asking the solution seems to be more end user computer-oriented. Will this capture server deployment and management as well? Or do we have any plan in future to tap this?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveYes. This is -- that's a question I get asked a lot. It's a very valid question. But yes, we are largely focusing on the endpoints now. We don't manage in the sense of it. That's something that we haven't gotten into. I don't see it in the road map. But VMware's vast portfolio, we're doing -- we're getting the containers in a cloud, so I don't know if we would get into server management.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveOkay, David. So there is another question from Mr. Michail. He's asking how Workspace ONE can help employee onboarding.
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveYes, absolutely brilliant question. So that's one of our key features. So with employee onboarding, like I said, we have integration with Dell. So say, for example, an employee is getting an offer letter, right? He's got an offer letter. And we have a great video on YouTube on this entire process. I wish I can show it to you now. But yes, so even before the employee comes onboard, there's a notification that goes out to the employee saying install Workspace ONE on your mobile device. The employee opens his -- the Workspace ONE app and then there's a flow. The employee gets to choose what laptop they want, depending on the options and certain other parameters. Everything is given to employee before the employee can join, right? Once the employee joins, you have out of the box device that can be enabled. With the Dell factory provisioning service you, can have everything pre-installed and shipped to the employee directly. So the employee just opens the box, configures and keys in his credentials and automatically he or she is enabled with the digital workspace and also applications in place. In terms of -- I understand we enabled again on whether it's -- even if we're doing Macs, we are deep in iOS, Android and Chromebook, any kind of device, right? So out of the box configuration of Zero Touch IT provisioning is one thing that really is onboarding employees. Another aspect is in terms of once we do factory provision in terms of reissuing device to a new employee, all you have to do is a factory resetting of the device for the new employee, right? So it's not -- even that can be done remotely. So it's not a lot of hard work in terms of reimaging on that, just have to reset and we have a new device in-hand, too. But yes, I think there's a great video on YouTube if you -- on employee onboarding. We've captured that entire process in a live demo. And I could share the link as well as a follow-up to this for all the attendees to have a look at it as well.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveThanks, David. Over to you, you can go ahead. Maybe we can take the rest of the question around portions [indiscernible].
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveSure. So I'm actually almost at the end of my session. So I just want to leave the messaging that -- some of the takeaways that you have. So we're all -- at the end of the day, like I said in the beginning, we are all in this together. So we're all learning from each other and we're all helping each other out. So everything that you know that I don't, so let's have that conversation and let's see how we can better the situation. My question to you, too -- actually, we think the way we want to deploy this in the future as well. If it's happened once, it's going to happen again. So plan for the future, rethink on the angles of the digital workspace. And especially with modern management because a lot of the traditional tools are not cut out for this kind of an environment, so you'll have to go with something more new, more modern and something that's capable of handling over-the-air remote management piece. And yes, at the end of the day, all of us want to be successful and make sure that our business continues and grows. So we are there to support you as Dell and as VMware, so as a single unified front, whatever is required, we'll make sure that we can extend our support to get you enabled and up and running. So that's pretty much the end of my presentation. You have the e-mail ID here. And I'll hand it over to Karan. And we can go over some questions. Because I think we have more attendants. Let's take some questions.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveSure. Thanks, David, for the informative and interesting talk. All right. Participants, now we have come to Q&A session. [Operator Instructions] So the first question coming up is can we push deploy the use of machines using AirWatch?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveI'm sorry, Karan, can you just repeat that? Can we...
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveIf we can push or not. Can we push to deploy the use of the machines using AirWatch?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveSorry, I'm not...
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveSo the question is can we deploy OS to end user machines using AirWatch?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveNo. Yes, the machine has to have an operating system. So we can't deploy an operating system itself.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveOkay. So the next question is from -- is how is it different from Cloudflare or Linode, which gives full cloud infrastructure? Can you hear me, David?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveSo I think I'm not familiar with Cloudflare or Linode.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveOkay. No worries.
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveI don't know if this is a virtual desktop solution. Because this is a company -- maybe on -- not catalog, but I don't think it can do an end-to-end complete digital workspace like we do. But yes, I could definitely look up Cloudflare or Linode and I could check and come back to you on that.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveGot it, David. So the next question is, is there a gateway firewall for cloud-based application?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveSo we have a gateway, right? So we have a gateway built, which can be installed in your home access as well. So that kind of acts as a two-way thing. It integrates with your firewall as well that you already have. I'm sorry. And like I said, you can do, put out VPN. So it all depends on what you're using your firewall for. We need to deep dive and see how the existing environment is set up and then we can go ahead and deep dive and understand and then propose what would be the best way to take it forward.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveOkay, David. David, next question is coming up from [ Mr. Lakshman ]. He's asking any offering specifically focused for work-from-home context and security?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveYes. So this is all -- I mean, Karan, it's all work from home-focused. So when the BCP -- I mean, sorry, the lockdown hit, we started enabling our trials as well. So if you look at -- for options like work from home, either it can be, what did customers do? They either bought Windows and laptops, give it to their employees. Or they told their employees, "Go to your office, take the desktop and go home." Or they said, "Please buy a personal laptop, we'll give you a VPN connectivity," right? So these are all the things. And what happened after that is the Windows and laptops that their employee had, how do they manage it on "join to domain?" And the tool that you have is the domain join management or the on-prem or a PCLM tool that manages within the network, right? Your device is not on the network. So then customers started doing VPN just to update the patch or see the help. So it's very cumbersome. So our solution is very, very much tailored to a work-from-home situation or a remote working situation. So we are enhancing this further with capturing data like log-in and log-off times. A lot of customers have come and asked, how do we ensure that the employee is productive? Or are they actually at work or just at home? So I think it's a kind of relationship that you have with your employees as well. But we have some small parameters that we've added in. When did the employee log in and log off, at least that. We capture some basic information like that. So we are definitely there to support employees who work from home and that's our primary objective.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveThanks, David. The next question is from Mr. [indiscernible]. He is asking does Workspace ONE integrate with Outlook or OneDrive for content-related work?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveYes. Absolutely yes. So we have complete -- we have one of the largest partnerships with Microsoft. Although we compete in certain areas, but they are our biggest partner. So you have full-fledged Office 365 management within Workspace ONE. So whether it's OneDrive, Outlook, I mean, all of them can be managed, right? So yes, that's it. And we extend our management to other suites as well, like G Suite, if you have -- if you're using Google Suite. I know some customers are still using Lotus Notes, so if you have any of those. So we are like a universal platform. So we don't lean towards any solution. We're kind of open. And that way, whether it's Office 365, whether it's G Suite, all of these we can integrate.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveThanks, David. So the next question is from Mr. Vishal. He's asking sometimes organizations block Microsoft Office apps on Android OS due to security reasons. [indiscernible] it?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveYes. So see, there is -- you should understand why we are the blocking apps and from what security parameter, right? So sometimes the way Microsoft also positions is that you if you want to use the mobile applications, you'll have to buy certain things. If you want to use OneDrive or Word, Excel application, you have to buy a next level of ATP license from Microsoft. So one is a cost angle to it and the other is security angle to it. Like how do you containerize those applications? How do you make sure that there's no data leak, right? So there are 2 ways to handle this. One is Microsoft, if you are using, even for your iOS and Android devices or your mobile devices, we can either integrate with Intune itself to manage them and put DLP policies on that. If you don't want to spend additional licenses, we also have our own applications like I was showing you earlier. We have productivity applications, right? So we have an application called the Content Locker. Now this Content Locker integrates with OneDrive, any file repository. And it has the ability to access any kind of file format, which is Word, Excel, PowerPoint, anything, PDF, right? So you can open any document within the Content Locker itself and that integrates OneDrive as well. So you can access your OneDrive through the Content Locker and containerize the application, it kind of secures. Today, we're saying it's all inclusive within the whole. So yes, that's another option that you can manage.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveThanks, David. The next question is how does the licenses and subscription work? Is it based on users connected?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveYes. It's not -- it's a user -- so we have 2 options, right? So we have a user-based license or a device-based license. So if you have one device per user, you're using only one Windows 10 device, you're not providing on mobile devices, you can go for a device-based license. These device licenses are completely transferable. It's not locked to the device. So if an employee leaves and another employee comes on, it's still a single license with you. So it's not concurrency. There's no -- not like a VDI solution, there is a bit concurrency. It's kind of like -- just based on the number of devices that are used. And we have [indiscernible] deployment as well. We have -- I would always recommend to you to go for cloud. But there may be certain reasons why you would like to go for on-prem. If that's the case, then we can even deploy on-prem as well.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveThanks, David. David, one last question for you. David, you are saying only [indiscernible] option only. And we can't use -- we can't push any OS to end user machines. So in the future also, we don't get deployment options to end user machines?
David Holland;VMware;End User Computing Sales Specialist
executiveYes. So see, OS, we have to talk to something, right? So the architecture is a client. Ours is an application that sits on top of the OS. So yes, we haven't reached that stages yet where we can deploy an OS on the device. So unfortunately, that's still something that we need a USB for. I think that's where the Dell services will come into play to ensure that we can support you in case you need to deploy an OS. But like I said before, you can buy a device with a vanilla OS and we can convert that always. Irrespective of what device you're having, whether it's personal or not, see, you have Windows 10 standard edition. You want to upgrade it to enterprise. All those things can be done with Workspace ONE. So most of the devices come bundled with an OS today. So just buy a device with any OS here, and after, we can take it on and we can manage it from there. I don't think that should be too much of a worry, specifically on deploying OS.
Karan Sehgal;Marketing Lead - Sales Enablement Programs
executiveThanks, David. David, it looks like we have covered all our questions. Anything you want to add on there?
